In this smaller version of "Away" the pointed forehead and pointed ear punctuate and emphasize the diagonal corners, while a mosaic of parts in the center echos the multi faceted relationship of the two dogs. I think of the configuration like a box full of puzzle pieces.

MODELS In their later life Dino and Mookie would often rest close together while facing each other. I could not resist painting all the protruding legs and ears and noses.

The painting process was a meditation on the differences and similarities between the two characters.
