REMOVING MASKING Cosmic Kit Boy

(For Sandler)

VIDEO AND REAL TIME STATS

The actual unmasking took a little over 7 minutes,
while this video is 1 minute and 23 seconds (including before and after pictures).

(See more information below the video.)

MASKING MATERIALS & PROCEDURE

For this painting I used a sort of marble pour for the atmosphere.
In order to get crisp delineations, I used self-adhesive shelf paper as the mask and sealed the edges with clear acrylic medium. Since I waited until the thick marbling was completely dry, I feared I might have to cut around the edges of the mask to prevent uplifted paint. However, cutting was unnecessary and only one or two places lifted and were easily glued down with acrylic medium.

MODEL AND THEME

Kit Boy was a sweet friendly geriatric Siamese cat cared for by a dear friend (Sandler).
The cosmic theme fit Sandler and, after Kit Boys death, it took on another meaning.
